Nigeria's 75Million Naira Cake!
The Nigerian government spent 75million Naira on a cake for the October 1st independence day celebration. 75Mil on a cake which a large majority of the population would not get to taste! In a country riddled with poverty, constant conflict and lack of major infrastructure I think those funds would have been better served to remedy other issues! A total of 6bn Naira was spent overall on the massive celebration. Definitely a lot of money down the drain for a country that has nothing to celebrate!

The attack is said to have killed eight people with the body count still rising and was perpetrated by the Niger- Delta activist group MEND. Truly a sad turn of events!

Nigeria Celebrating 50 Years of Independence
The Federal Republic of Nigeria celebrated 50 years of independence today! Prior to the massive celebrations which took place around the country and in the diaspora the president Goodluck Jonathan addressed the nation in a special broadcast. He stated 'Today marks the dawn of a new era. It is in our hands to decide what we want to make of it. We must reawaken in ourselves the hunger and aspirations of our founding fathers for a strong, united and prosperous nation that shall be the pride of future generation.'
We hope the President has a plan for the country, that being said the question today remains: Is there anything worth celebrating?
