The term 'White Wedding' originated from the white colour of the wedding dress, which only became popular in the Victorian era after Queen Victoria wore a white lace dress at her wedding. Many people later assumed that the white colour symbolized virginity but prior to the Victorian era, brides got married in any colour they chose.
